Hanuma Vihari - Test squad in the home series against New Zealand

Midfielder Hanuma Vihari, who was dropped from the Test squad in the home series against New Zealand, will travel with the Indian ‘A’ team to South Africa to secure a match, Vihari was not named in the India ‘A’ team announced earlier this week, but will now spend three four-day games in South Africa to get used to the conditions. India will play a series of three Test matches in South Africa starting in mid-December.

Hanuma Vihari, who is notorious for injuries sustaining the Sydney Test, was part of the Test team in England earlier this year but did not win the game.

Ajinkya Rahane has been named captain for the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur (November 25-29) and will lead the team without Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and -Mohammed Shami, all rest is considered. The BCCI did not give reasons for its statement on Friday but made it clear that Kohli will be the captain of the second Test team in Mumbai, which will run from December 3 to 7.

The Indian team will play

“We had better send him to South Africa. The Indian team will play in South Africa later this year. If he scores a goal then he will be selected for the Indian team that will face South Africa, ”said a source on the Indian board.

Perhaps, the selectors feel that Vihari will not be able to play in two Tests at home and it is better to play in South Africa with India ‘A’. A large group of India will be visiting South Africa in a month and Vihari if he is in the form in those situations it would be a better bet than cooling off his heels in India.

Shreyas Iyer was pre-selected for Vihari (in Tests with New Zealand) but may not be in the Playing XI. But it remains to be seen whether the party will still prefer Iyer over Vihari if the opportunity arises from South Africa. That would be an understatement of Vihari that has proven itself to be imported overseas.

Future Ajinkya Rahane

There is another dynamic involved. The theory is that Vihari is regarded as a potential successor to Cheteshwar Pujara and Iyer in the future Ajinkya Rahane.

Iyer will still play for the first time in Tests but has played a stroke-filled innings in white cricket. The home series team consists of three openers in KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Mayank Agarwal.

With wicketkeeper Pant not playing, Wriddhiman Saha will be the first choice and his backup will be KS Bharat of Andhra, who has many First-Class runs under his belt and has just hit the order of Royal Challengers Bangalore. Medium-pacer Prasidh Krishna from Karnataka also secured a place in the Indian Test team as Bumrah and Shami were absent.

Why should Surya Kumar Yadav be nominated for India ‘A’?
It would be an insult to justice if a talented striker like Surya Kumar Yadav was seen as the only T20 player. But it looks like the nominees have left him on the ‘A’ tour of South Africa ahead of the Test series. He is not part of the Test squad that will face New Zealand in the home series. He did well in the T20 format anyway but his real strength lies in the long version. And He was in the Test scheme and was on the team during the India tour of England. Nominees must explain what has changed. Getting Shreyas Iyer in the middle class is a wise decision but Yadav should not forget.
